The lush and verdant reaches of the Verde River were a frequent stop on the extended Goldwater Family wilderness itinerary. Dad would typically gather up his four kids, our cousins, friends and other neighborhood children , set up camp somewhere along the banks of this majestic waterway and systematically impart lessons on nature and history that reaffirmed our pride as Arizonans.
