Light, shadow and the intricacies of the hands of time across the face of a Native elder were favored elements of my father’s Indian photography. Sometimes his subjects were strangers whose acquaintance he made through a haphazard introduction in the wilderness or during his tenure as partner in Rainbow Lodge Trading Post. Often they were childhood friends from Phoenix Indian School who welcomed him into their homes as a trusted friend and he behaved as though he understood the meaning of the word. - Michael Goldwater
