Dad had an eye for the picturesque, whether natural or manmade. He particularly fancied scenes that offered a combination of the two such as this stunning view of the windmill located near Pipe Spring, in the vicinity of Wolf Hole, both in Arizona.

The name Wolf Hole is rumored to have been conferred by Major John Wesley Powell, because he translated the Indian word for coyote as wolf. Drought and years of overgrazing have left the land nearly barren, but in bygone days, Pipe Spring played a pivotal role in the development of the region. The first telegraph line in northern Arizona ran from Kanab, Utah, to Pipe Spring.
